R. Maxwell Alley, M.D.

Dr. R. Maxwell Alley is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. Dr. Alley's main area of specialization involves Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine. Ligamentous reconstruction of the knee and shoulder, as well as arthroscopic operations of the shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle are also a large component of his practice. A rticular cartilage resurfacing techniques are also of special interest.

Dr. Alley has numerous memberships in professional societies, such as Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), where he has served as a laboratory instructor; a Fellow, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; Diplomate, National Board of Medical Examiners and Frank C. McCue III Society. Dr. Alley also serves on the Medical Advisory Board to the New York State Athletic Commission , and as Co-Team Physician for the State University of New York at Albany

He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1987. Dr. Alley did his general Surgery internship at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital in New York. He then did his General Surgery Residency at Albany Medical Center and his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Virginia. Dr. Alley completed his fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center under Dr. Arthus Pappas. Dr. Alley joined Capital Region Orthopaedics in 1994.

Dr. Alley sees patients at the Albany, Guilderland, and Clifton Park offices.
